2016–17
The NHL awarded an expansion franchise on June 22, 2016. Play began in 2017–18. City National Arena — 146,000 square feet, two regulation sheets — opened September 18, 2017, as headquarters, practice ice, and a Southern Nevada recreation hub.

2018–23
The club reached the Stanley Cup Final in its first season and won the Cup in 2022–23. The club's own Season X announcement records three Finals in ten seasons. ESPN, in the first year, documented packed practices at City National Arena when game tickets were scarce.

2020–22
The AHL affiliate arrived in 2020 as the Henderson Silver Knights, first at Orleans Arena, then at Lee's Family Forum (about 5,567 seats) from 2022. America First Center opened November 10, 2020, as two more NHL-size sheets on Water Street.

College Hockey News recorded the 2026 NCAA Frozen Four at T-Mobile Arena and a 2025 ACHA national title for UNLV's club at City National Arena. On May 13, 2026 the PWHL announced a Las Vegas team for 2026–27. On August 28, 2026 the Review-Journal reported home games split between T-Mobile Arena and Lee's Family Forum.
